Iain Sinclair and Alan Moore

70 x 70: THE SORCERERS + Iain Sinclair, Alan Moore and Chris Petit in conversation.

Wednesday 17 July, 8.15.

London psycho-geographical writer Iain Sinclair celebrates his 70th birthday year with the showing of 70 films he handpicked that relate to his work. Hackney Picturehouse is delighted to present the inaugural event of the series with a screening of “The Sorcerers“, Michael Reeves’ 1967 Boris Karloff science fiction/horror classic, followed by a rare cinema screening of the first of Iain & Chris Petit‘s made for TV trilogy – 1992’s “The Cardinal & The Corpse“. “The Cardinal & The Corpse” features a cavalcade of the ‘reforgotten’ including footage of Alan Moore, Michael Moorcock & Robin Cook (aka Derek Raymond) and east end poet/writer/activist Emanuel Litvinoff.

Iain Sinclair, Alan Moore & Chris Petit will be on hand to read sections of their work and discuss the films.

Please visit Picturehouse website for booking and more information.

From the Test Centre newsletter:

Filmmaker and writer Chris Petit returns to Test Centre with the new publication GOOGLEmeGOD.  A development from Petit’s Museum of Loneliness pamphlets, GOOGLEmeGOD is the first printed output from that project to be generally available. The book collects writings resulting from travels in Johannesburg, Nuremberg, and the internet. Drawing from the exploded image bank, the Museum explores how ‘experience becomes its own form of curating drifted into cultural margins’. GOOGLEmeGOD engages with the meaning of the image and its relationship to text, urban space, memory and experience ‘to achieve a state between technology & dream’.

The book consists of 6 texts:
Games without frontiers; FRAGMENTS OF THE LOST CIVILISATION; GOOGLEmeGOD I & II; the open book; the museum of loneliness

The book is published in an edition of 300 stamped copies.
Also available are 15 numbered and signed copies with extra holographic material.

The London Review of Books Blog has published an interesting article about the launch of Chris Petit’s The Museum of Loneliness earlier this month. It also discusses Test Center‘s anti-commercialism, an attitude which does not automatically exclude the market. You can find it here.

Museum of Loneliness LP launch at the Whitechapel Gallery

Chris Petit’s Museum of Loneliness

Chris Petit’s Museum of Loneliness

On 2th May a special event for the launch of writer and essay film-maker Chris Petit’s album Museum of Loneliness, thanks to Test Centre.

Released on vinyl only, the LP is made up of specially-recorded readings from Petit’s novels Robinson (1993), The Hard Shoulder (2001) and The Passenger (2006), and from his recent project The Museum of Loneliness. Backed by soundtracks from his films Asylum (with Iain Sinclair, 2000) and Content (2010), along with street recordings made by Petit in Johannesburg and other field recordings, Museum of Loneliness is at once a unique retrospective and a new standalone work.

The event will celebrate accordingly, with a rare screening of Asylum, appearances from Petit and Iain Sinclair, and playback of the album.

The event starts at 7pm, and the cafe will be open for drinks afterwards. We’ll be selling copies of our LPs and magazines, including Test Centre Three hot off the press.

Tickets are available here.  Book now to avoid disappointment!
