The book contains an essay by Iain.
“I’m still working on my book tracking the walks of van Gogh across Europe. It’s called WALKING SHADOWS.”
“PARIAH GENIUS is published in paperback in a couple of weeks.”
“And Swedenborg House are launching, GIFTS RETURNED BY THE RIVER, on May 30. Work by Mike Moorcock, B.Catling, Jarett Kobek, myself & many others (including a visit to Alan Moore), following the ‘Histories & Hauntings’ exhibition.”
I’m excited by the prospect of Iain’s Van Gogh book here. To digress and explain… After two successful walking expeditions last year (London to Liverpool in 17 walks and London to Hastings in 7), my friends and I started along the Ridgeway earlier this year. We had to put the adventure on hold, having covered Ivinghoe Beacon to Watlington in three stints, when a combination of back injuries and family obligations put my companions out of action. Instead, over the last few weekends, I decided to cover London to Brighton under my own steam, while also happening to get round to reading ‘Pariah Genius’ on my work breaks during the week. Finishing the book last Thursday, just prior to completing the fourth and final day of my walk, I was pleased to discover I’d been roughly following in the footsteps of Van Gogh (the start of my walk had been from Battersea, through Brixton and down to Croydon). The post-script to this is that I started reading ‘Gifts Returned By The River’ this afternoon and find Iain’s talking about walking the Ridgeway. Always (at least) one step ahead! Best wishes, Stu
