We’re back, got the first flight out of San Francisco at lunchtime on Wednesday… now trying to clear backlog of post, phone calls, missed deadlines. I have to give a talk tomorrow at the Univ. of Surrey.

Ben, still nothing resolved. We may get a flight tomorrow, but United seems to be at the bottom of the food chain. And every piece of advice is contradictory: ‘you could go to Washington, then Zurich’… ‘Aberdeen is open’… ‘Try Madrid’… ‘Madrid is at capacity’… ‘No boats’… ‘Stay where you are, it’s better than Chicago, better [...] Ben - we’re ok; booked back into our Holiday Inn, which is presently occupied by a hard-core, jar-head lesbian convention. The Xtian fundamentalists, who greeted the world so loudly, have moved on. The sun shines on panhandlers and courteous street people with shopping trolleys filled with city salvage.
