“By Our Selves” at the Hackney Picture House – special screening + Q&A

BY OUR SELVES POSTER 4 SMALL TEXT copy

UK premiere of Andrew Kötting’s film By Our Selves, which retraces English poet John Clare’s journey from Epping Forest to Northamptonshire. Toby Jones, Iain Sinclair and a Straw Bear follow in Clare’s footsteps exactly 150 years after his death. En route they bump into Macgillivray, Dr Simon Kovesi and the wizard Alan Moore. Meantime the journey is narrated by Toby’s father Freddie, a maverick actor who featured in numerous David Lynch films. An epic march through hunger and madness, By Our Selves is an English journey to set beside ‘A Pilgrim’s Progress’. Following the screening, there will be a Q&A with Andrew Kotting, Iain Sinclair, Alan Moore and Toby Jones, hosted by Gareth Evans.

THANK YOU to all of you who have already helped the film by pledging money. There are plenty of new prizes and rewards and whatnots left on the kickstarter site.To see what it’s all about please click on the button above.

There are just ten days left before the campaign closes after which if we do not reach our target we are left bereft – with no money at all – just a warm feeling that so many of you tried to help. So if there is anyone that you know directly or indirectly and who you felt might be able to help with monies then please forward this email.

Toby Jones, Alan Moore, MacGillivray, Jem Finer, Philippe Ciompi, Nick Gordon Smith, Anonymous Bosch, David Aylward, Leila McMillan, Marcia Farquhar as well as friends and family have all given generously of their time and energy. It would be sad not to realise such an ambitious project.

I’m excited to think that we might yet be able to deliver a film that could end up being like the bastard child from the unholy communion of Gallivant and Swandown whilst This Filthy Earth looked on.

PS Iain Sinclair and I will be presenting the project this Wednesday 9th July 6.45pm at the Hackney Picture House. There will be readings from John Clare and Edge of the Orison. We will also show some short films that Iain and I have made together over the years.

PPS Eden’s cameo as Dorothy is growing all the time and she has now promised to read extracts from the Wizard of Oz for the finished film.
