The legendary Secret Garden Party & Wilderness festivals bring the fo:rem to London for the first time, and take square aim at The Games with Olympic arch-critic Iain Sinclair in conversation with agenda-setting journalist and author Anna Minton. There’s also music from festival favourites We Were Everygreen, plus poetry and refreshing cocktails from Hendrick’s Gin to sip whilst enjoying the first in a series that will use speakers, debate, music, film, theatre, poetry, and the brightest in arts & academia to discuss the pitfalls & potential of urban-life.

Iain Sinclair, Sebastian Groes and Maureen Duffy in conversation

Sinclair, Duffy and Groes will be discussing how we can use London’s history, myths and fictions to understand the city’s present condition, but also its future.
With the major, irrevocable changes made to the city’s landscape by developments such as the 2012 Olympics and the Shard, are we staring at the future ruins of London?
The discussion is based on the research for Groes’s book on the contemporary London novel, The Making of London (Palgrave)

Then, with a year to go until the 2012 Olympics, Peter Marshall visits the Olympic Park in east London to find out if pledges that were made to win the event – including leaving behind a lasting physical legacy and inspiring two million people to take up sport and physical activity – will be fulfilled.

Author Iain Sinclair, who is sceptical about the London project, explains his feelings about London 2012, and we’ll be joined by the athlete-turned-ambassador who led London’s bid, Lord Coe, the Welsh athlete Baroness Grey-Thompson, and writer Will Self, who has described the Olympics as a “running and jumping festival”.

London’s Olympic Park – a future ruin?

Three years ago – with the Beijing Olympics about to start – Evan Davis went for a walk around the 2012 Olympic site with author Iain Sinclair, who was apprehensive and sceptical about the London project.

Now – with the games just a year away – the presenter of BBC Radio 4′s Today programme returned to east London for another stroll to see if Iain Sinclair had changed his opinion about the grandest of Grand Projects. They started in nearby Victoria Park.
