Alex Bocchetto, one of the many Italians on voluntary exile abroad, is working on a project:

“A photographic project about London.

1 city, 1 year, 2 cameras, 98 pictures, 2 colours, 8 millions of people, 500.000 CCTV, 1 dinosaur, 2 dark divinities, 1 old negative found in Tel-Aviv, 1 book (finger crossed)

London on black & white film, street photography.
A story of flesh and concrete, high hopes and broken dreams. Monuments of illusion and moments of disillusion. The eyes of the people. The preolympic frenzy.
A pair of fishnets, a hole in the curtain, an house without windows, flags and fences, a christmas dance and a strip club.
An on the road psychogeographic pub crawl through back-alleys and skyscrapers, in the lunar landscape just outside the border of the postcards
The Isle of Dogs, Battersea Power Station, the Royal Wedding, the summer festivals, Hackney, Stratford, Holloway road, italian processions. bring your own landmarks
A tale, whispered from the tops of the buildings and the ends of the roads, of the struggle between modernity and obsolescence. The city itself lives a speechless life of foundations and secret gardens, skyscrapers and ruins, sharing, with Man, the same circle of growth and decay.
London in the year before the olympics: diving board or edge of the abyss ?
The book is currently in search of a publisher, or a good typography !”

‘The Artists Eye’ an exhibition at Hackney Museum.

Remit: Artists’ reaction to the coming Olympics and it’s effect on the area and people through visual art.
My name is Pete Burke, and for the last 3 years or so I have been photographing building site peep holes.
I take photos with a low tech 3.2 megapixel phone camera. After deleting all but the best images, I download my pictures at Snappy Snaps(Mare Street) and have them printed large with no cropping, photoshopping, or intervention of any sort. The concept being that the photographs are as immediate and straightforward as possible, and allow for expansion within limitation.
The photos are a metaphor of change sweeping over our familiar territory, of those within and those without.
The building site peep hole seems to be the developers concession to an encroached upon community. It allows us to take a sneaky peek at what is causing the chaos at the end of the street.

I have four photos in this exhibition.

The private view is on Thursday 2nd Feb, 6pm-7.45, and I think it is up until about mid April.
