Metropolis is a festival and a laboratory for the development of the creative city. With Metropolis, Copenhagen International Theatre exits the theatre and enters the city to create art, life and debate. The objective is to break the established notions of the art, and in particular the traditional image of the performing arts. Metropolis is a biannual festival, alternating with the festival in odd years and the laboratory in even years.
7 – 9 June Copenhagen International Theatre is hosting the fourth edition of the Metropolis Laboratory, which will be working towards the next Metropolis Festival in August 2013. The Laboratory will take place at KPH Volume in Sydhavnen on Enghavevej – a part of a new creative hub in Copenhagen next to the circus school AFUK and Copenhagen Skatepark.
The programme will be a 3-day seminar in English followed by a number of short workshops, where artists and architects collaborate on developing ideas and concepts for public spaces in Copenhagen. Metropolis Laboratory 2012 will focus on five main themes:

  • Urban gaming and street culture
  • User driven involvement
  • Instant architecture
  • Global issues related to conflict zones and catastrophes
  • Issues regarding privatization of public spaces
