Iain Sinclair introduces Michael McClure, LRB

“The West Coast beat poet, playwright & ecologist Michael McClure makes a welcome return visit to the LRB to launch his New Directions volume Mysterios. The event will include the first London screening of Colin Still’s documentary: Abstract Alchemist of Flesh, an hour-long film which explores the range & diversity of McClure’s work, with contributions from Peter Coyote, Terry Riley & rock legend Ray Manzarek of The Doors. The film includes sequences from McClure’s censorship-challenging play The Beard, & rare archival footage, including a scene in which the young poet declaims his poems in ‘beast language’ to the lions San Francisco Zoo. The event will be introduced by Iain Sinclair….”

The reading will be on Thursday 8th July at the bookshop, 14 Bury Place, London WC1A 2JL, starting at 7.00pm.
