Explore the career of Nicholas Hawksmoor, one of the great architects of the English Baroque. His monumental and mysterious churches have become celebrated landmarks in the City and West End of London. This day begins with an exploration of his career in the V&A’s display. Europe and the English Baroque: Architecture in England 1660-1715, led by Charles Hind, head of RIBA. It continues with a tour of Christ Church and Spitalfields and a discussion of the imaginary elements associated with Hawksmoor’s work by Iain Sinclair, author of Lud’s Gate and Downriver.
